“Thunderbolt est un enregistrement en live d'un concert à Mayence, en Allemagne donné en 1986. Un des derniers de Chris McGregor (il esty décédé quatre ans plus tard), il laisse à entendre un jazz débridé aux effluves de kwela et de mbaqanga. Thunderbolt has been recorded during a concert in Mainz, in Germany in 1986. This album, one of the last one of Chris McGregor (he died four years later) is deeply mystic and rich of south african styles (kwela, mbaqanga) . ”

Les textes se font l’écho du combat qu’ont mené les jazzmen sud-africains et en particulier le Blue Notes contre le régime de l’apartheid.
