The Journey

“The journey parle de la vie, de sa source et de l'inévitable mortalité de tous les peuples. Ces thèmes apparaissent souvent dans les chansons d'Alpha Yaya Diallo. Alpha est rejoint ici par le guitariste Ousmane Kouyaté. Au cours de l'enregistrement de cet album , en Mars 2000, Alpha s'est rendu à Conakry, en Guinée où il a vrendu visite à sa famille et a rencontré son vieil ami Doura Barry. Avec la soeur de Doura Barry, Sona, ils ont enregistré "Mi Djedjema». Cette session d'enregistrement a également été la pièce maîtresse d'un film documentaire sur Alpha et son voyage, The Best of Both Worlds. Cet album a valu à Alpha Yaya Diallo le 2002 Juno award Best Global Album winner.

These themes, with their serious undertones, appear often in the songs of Alpha Yaya Diallo. Alpha is joined by West Africa guitarist Ousmane Kouyate. During the making of this album another kind of journey was made as well. In March 2000, Alpha travelled back home to Conakry, Guinea where he visited family and met with his old friend and musical associate Doura Barry. Together with Doura's sister Sona Barry they recorded 'Mi Djedjema' . That recording session was also the centrepiece of a documentary film about Alpha and his journey, called The Best of Both Worlds. 2002 Juno award Best Global Album winner.
