Best of Mahotella Queens: Township Idols
Ce groupe instrumental qui fait partie intégrante de la formation Mahlatini and the Mahotella Queens a participé au lancement du mbaqanga en 1964. Durant plusieurs décennies, West NKosi, Vivian Ngubane et Marks Mankwane ont composé et joué pour le groupe mythique du mbaqanga, Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens, mais n’ont pas à proprement parlé signé beaucoup d’albums en leur nom propre. Ce n’est qu’en 1983, à l’occasion de la comédie musicale Mathaka produite par West Nkosi et diffusée sur SABC3 que le groupe signe deux albums : Mathaka vol1 et vol2.
Cette série dont ils animent la partie musicale , marquée par le mbaqanga mais aussi la pop, conte la vie quotidienne d’un garage et connaîtra un énorme succès auprès des sud-africains noirs. Son arrêt en 1984 signera leur retour au sein de Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens et le début d’un succès planétaire.

X 14 This instrumental group which is an integral part of Mahlatini and the Mahotella Queens participated in the launch of the mbaqanga in 1964. For several decades, West NKosi, Vivian Ngubane and Marks Mankwane have composed and played for the legendary group of mbaqanga, Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens, but have not signed many albums on their own behalf. It was not until 1983, when the musical Mathaka produced by West Nkosi and broadcast on SABC3 that the group signed two albums: Mathaka vol1 and vol2.
The series which they enliven the musical, marked by the mbaqanga but also pop, was about the daily life of a garage and was a huge success among South African blacks. When the series stopped in 1984 the Makgona Tsohle Band went back playing with Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens, and together, they became famous on the world scene.
