Since the 1960’s, this instrument has been adopted by many musicians: Buddy Colette, James Newton, Eric Dolphy and american Thomas Valhe who founded in the 1990’s in Senegal “Nakodjé”, a group and an association whose aim was to make and promote african musical instruments.

Depuis les années 1960, cet instrument a été adopté par de nombreux musiciens: Buddy Colette, James Newton, Eric Dolphy et l’américain Thomas Valhe qui a créé dans les années 1990 au Sénégal Nakodjé, un groupe et une association fabriquant et valorisant les instruments africains. The “Fulani flute” has many characteristics : a voice / flute effect ( the flute player “sings” in his flute, the polyphonics effects, the relation between rhythm and melody, its numerous variations and the fundamental role of improvisation.
