« The memorial concert » met en avant trois musiciens en conversation , Chris McGRegor au piano, Johnny Dyani, contrebassiste et chanteur, ancien membre des Blue Notes, et le saxophoniste Steve Williamson.
Une expérience enrichissante entre ces deux exilés sud-africains baignés dans la kwela, le township jazz et le jazz de Duke Ellington et ce multi-instrumentiste britannique venu du reggae puis évoluant dans le jazz. A signaler que Steve Williamson a joué avec Courtney Pine, Art Blakey et a fait partie du Brotherhood of Breath de Chris McGregor et de Viva la black de Louis MOholo avant de former son propre groupe dans les années 1990.
A rich dialogue between these two south african musicians in exile both influenced by kwela music and Duke Ellington and this british musician who started in reggae bands before joining the jazz scene. Steve Williamson has been both a member of Chris McGregor’s Brotherhood of Breath and Louis Moholo’s Viva la Black. In the 1990s, he set up his own band.
