The Prince est le premier album solo enregistré par Jabu Khanyilé sans Bayete et symbolise son émancipation par rapport au groupe. Il propose ici une musique plus méditative. La ligne de choeurs est assurée par une nouvelle génération de chanteurs (Maxwell Mntambo, Luyanda Jezile, Khanyo Maphumulo, Khululiwe Sithole Remember Mbongwa, Deborah Fraser) dont certains participèrent à la comédie musicale Sarafina montée par Mbongeni Ngema. Dans le clip qui accompagne l'album, Jabu Khanyile joue de la kora sur du mbaqanga, affichant ainsi le rêve qui guida sa carrière : unifier les musiques du continent. The Prince is the first solo album recorded by Jabu Khanyilé without Bayete and symbolizes his musical emancipation. This album is more meditative than the previous one. The chorus line is ensured by a new generation of singers (Maxwell Mntambo, Luyanda Jezile, Khanyo Maphumulo, Khululiwe Sithole Remember Mbongwa, Deborah Fraser) some of whom participated in the musical Sarafina directed by Mbongeni Nguema.
