En 2015, Les frères Smith sortent « Free To Go », un album intégrant afro-beat et musique mandingue. Il est enregistré entre autres avec Djéli Moussa Kondé (« Djilan »), Mamani Keïta (« Lamale »), Milo Lowe (« Trouble »), Prosper Nya (« Koni », « Nia Mangolo », « Free to Go », « Better Thing »), Swala Emati (« Crisis », « Liar ») aux voix.
Les Frères Smith
Fondé en 2000 à Paris, en France, Les frères Smith sont un collectif d’une douzaine de musiciens. Ils ont lancé un genre musical qu’ils appellent « Afrikanbeat », de l’afro-groove ou afro-fusion intégrant soul, funk, jazz, afro-beat nigérian (de Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Tony Allen), highlife ghanéen, musique mandingue ou encore éthio-jazz (jazz éthiopien), avec des incursions reggae.
Leurs textes chantés en français, en anglais ou en arabe dénoncent les politiciens véreux, le capitalisme, la corruption, l’injustice ou appellent au respect de l’environnement et à la vérité.
