Fondé en 1995 par le guitariste et producteur anglais Simon Emmerson, Afro Celt Sound System est un groupe multi-ethnique naviguant entre afro-fusion, afro-pop, afro-celte, afro-électro, mélanges de styles modernes et sonorités celtiques et africaines.
L’album « Release » sera nominé aux Grammy Awards 1999 aux Etats-Unis, dans la catégorie « Meilleur album world ».
