L’album « Ubuhle Bemvelo » comporte « Woza Friday », le titre de leur début quand le duo s’appelait encore “Johnny and Sipho”. Ce morceau a une coloration kwela et évoque le jour tant attendu de la paie par les travailleurs migrants.
Formé en 1976 par Johnny Clegg et Sipho Mchunu, deux guitaristes, chanteurs et danseurs, Juluka s’illustre avec sa fusion de musiques zulu (mbaqanga, maskandi (ou maskanda), isacathamiya), de rock et de folk… Un crossover entre communautés noires et blanches dans une Afrique du Sud encore sous le joug de l’apartheid. The track « Woza Friday », was one of the first tracks of Johnny Clegg and Sipho Mchunu when they founded in 1976 the duet “Johnny and Sipho”. The music is influenced by kwela and the lyrics are about the migrants most important day of the week, friday, when they get paid.
